Kashmir, a place famous for traditional art of people and artisans who make, craft, and decorate objects by hand. Using natural materials and processes in the crafting process helps reduce carbon footprint, and make the manufacturing process more environmentally-friendly.
Crewel embroidery being one of them is the meticulous artisanal method employed by our forefathers which continue to live in in numerous villages of Kashmir valley. The crewel work is produced in villages and provides an important supplementary income between harvests and other rural works. The crewel embroidery is done by hand using a sharp hooked tool called "aari" similar to crochet hook. The artisan hooks the needle in the fabric nearly 110,000 times to cover an area of 1 Sqmtr which takes 10 days.
